UBC Peer-to-Peer Network: Sign up as a Helper (to provide support)

Residency can be challenging in so many ways.  Whether you are adapting to living in a new city, or you are feeling overwhelmed with trying to find work-life balance, there is another resident, in or outside of your program that has dealt with similar challenges and understands what you are going through.  If you want to speak informally with this person, this is the program for you.

By joining the program, you can expect to:

·     Offer or receive informal support

·     Share your experiences

·     Listen to the experiences of someone who has been where you are

·     Share or inherit some pearls of wisdom

·     Offer and receive encouragement and helpful tips

All information will be kept confidential and will be used solely for the purposes of matching.

Terms of Participation

Both residents in a peer-to-peer match are bound by confidentiality. This means that neither participant may disclose anything about the help received or provided or any information regarding their matched peer. Participants in this program will be given the name and contact information (telephone number and e-mail address only) of their matched peer. No other information will be disclosed by the Resident Wellness Office. This means that no other parties will have access to participant information, or be aware of who chooses to participate in this program.

The number of meetings is up to the discretion of the helper and helpee, and based on both parties’ availability and needs. The helpee is always welcome to contact the Resident Wellness Office for a new match due to scheduling difficulties or poor fit. The Peer Helper is not meant to provide counselling or therapy. He or she is there to offer friendly support.
